Cardinal Gibbons, North Miami win in soccer. Fort Lauderdale, Hillel, Somerset reach 10 wins

Eugene Gibbons had two goals as the Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons boys’ soccer team shut out Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy 5-0.

Finn Aillif, Felix Azpurua and Henry Copelin also scored. Deven Garcia recorded two assists, and Julian Crouseltt, Alberto Hernandez and Luigi Olivieri added assists.

The Chiefs improved to 6-3-1, heading into the holiday break.

In other action, Miami MAST (8-1-2) edged Miami Columbus 2-1, but Columbus rebounded by upsetting Miami Gulliver Prep 2-0. Also close, Ferguson (7-0-1) edged Varela 2-1, and North Miami is on a five-match win streak.

Plus, Hollywood South Broward won its 10th game of the season, before breaking for the holidays, as did Fort Lauderdale, Gulliver Prep, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, Miami Scheck Hillel and Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy.

Miami Scheck Hillel edged Miami Doral Academy 3-2 in a battle of solid programs.

Tied at two at halftime, Hillel scored the winner in the second half.

Goalkeeper David Bentolila and Adam Waich lead the unbeaten Lions (11-0-1). Doral is 6-5-1.

Miami Southwest won its first game of the season, snapping a nine-game losing streak, while handing Miami Jackson its first loss this season.
