The Orange Bowl game featuring a National Semifinal matchup on Jan. 9 won’t be the only big OB event in South Florida.

There will be plenty of other Orange Bowl activities leading to the big football game. One of those will be the 35th Annual Junior Orange Bowl High School Basketball Classic, which is Friday, Dec. 27 through Monday, Dec. 30 at Westminster Christian School, 6855 SW 152nd St., in Pinecrest.

For the boys, five local teams will be participating including defending 5A state champion Miami Norland and reigning 6A state champ Pembroke Pines Charter along with Mater Lakes, Miami Palmetto and the host school Westminster Christian. Three out of state teams will complete the field, Roman Catholic HS from Philadelphia (No. 18 in the nation, Max Preps), Mount St. Joseph from Baltimore (2016 & 2019 Junior OB champions) and Woodward Academy from College Park, Gerogia.

On the girls’ side locally, leading the way will be the No.2 and No.3 ranked teams in Class 7A, Miami High and Doral Academy along with two other entries, Miami Southridge and Miami SLAM Academy. Out of town teams will be Bradley Central HS (Tennessee), Magnificat HS (Ohio), Springboro HS (Ohio) and Woodward Academy from College Park, Georgia. Bradley Central is the reigning two-time defending Tennessee state champions.

The two championship games are Monday, Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. (girls) and 9 p.m. (boys).

“We’re extremely proud of the tradition of community service that our teams have shared over the years in all of these events,” said Junior Basketball Committee Chairman Chuck Little. “We’re once again looking forward to some great activities.”
