Miami Gulliver Prep boys’ basketball player Jacob Marquez is the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

At the National HoopFeast Tournament in Wesley Chapel, the senior point guard scored a career-high 40 points, including a full court shot at the buzzer to lift the Raiders over St. Petersburg 93-92 in overtime. He also scored 25 points with 6 assists and 5 steals in a win over Tampa Carrollwood Day 65-52..

Julius Bullock of Davie NSU University soccer, Tomas Visintini of Miami Beach soccer, Jeano Joachim of North Miami basketball, J’adore Hayes of North Miami basketball, Marcelo Mantecon of Miami Belen Jesuit cross-country, Breanna Gordon of Parkland Stoneman Douglas soccer, Deven Garcia of Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons soccer, and Dwight Whipple of Miami Westminster Christian basketball rounded out the participants in this week’s poll.

The Miami Herald Football and Athlete of the Week polls open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
