Poll: Who should be the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week? (Dec. 9)

South Florida’s top athletes were recognized recently in the sports of basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, and swimming.

This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week from basketball, cross-country and soccer in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Dec. 12, around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.

Julius Bullock, Davie NSU University soccer: the junior had a hat trick (three goals) in a 6-2 win over North Palm Beach Benjamin in the Palm League quarterfinals and recorded 1 goal (the winning goal) in a 1-0 win over Miami Palmer Trinity in the Palm League semifinals.

Deven Garcia, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons soccer: the senior scored 2 goals with 1 assist in a 4-0 win over Oakland Park Northeast and 2 more goals in a 5-2 win over West Broward.

Breanna Gordon, Parkland Stoneman Douglas soccer: the junior scored both goals for the Eagles in a tie at 2 with Miami Lourdes in a battle of two unbeaten teams.

J’adore Hayes, North Miami basketball: at the Thanksgiving Turkey Day Shootout in West Palm Beach, the junior center had 41 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks in a 59-47 win over Palm Beach Central and 40 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks in a 77-60 win over Riviera Beach Suncoast.

Jeano Joachim, North Miami basketball: the senior guard had 16 points and 4 steals in a 63-62 win over North Miami Beach and 13 points (4-9 3-ptrs), 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in a 61-59 win over Miami Jackson.

Marcelo Mantecon, Miami Belen Jesuit cross-country: at the Nike NXR Southeast Regional Championship (featuring teams from 12 states) in Cary, North Carolina, the sophomore was fifth of 273 runners in 14:55 to lead the Wolverines to the team championship, which qualified them for nationals.

Jacob Marquez, Miami Gulliver Prep basketball: at the National HoopFeast Tournament in Wesley Chapel, the senior point guard scored a career-high 40 points, including a full court shot at the buzzer to lift the Raiders over St. Petersburg 93-92 in overtime. He also scored 25 points with 6 assists, and 5 steals in a win over Tampa Carrollwood Day 65-52.

Tomas Visintini, Miami Beach soccer: the senior scored the winner in a big 1-0 win over the nation’s No.4-ranked Miami Gulliver Prep. The Hi-Tides are 5-0-1.

Dwight Whipple, Miami Westminster Christian basketball: the senior had 16 points with 3 3-pointers, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in a 71-52 win for the unbeaten Warriors (4-0) over Mater Academy Charter.
