Poll: Who should be the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week? (Nov. 25)

South Florida’s top athletes were recognized last week in the sports of cross-country, golf, swimming and volleyball.

This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week from basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer and swimming in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Nov. 28, around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.

Finn Ailiff, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons soccer: the senior had 1 goal and 1 assist in a 3-1 boys’ soccer win over Cooper City.

Jia Amores, Miami Mater Lakes Academy swimming: at the FHSAA Class 2A Girls’ Swimming State Championships in Ocala, the freshman won the 100 fly title (54.91) and helped the 400 free relay place first (3:34.9) to clinch a runner-up team finish, best in program history.

Dariana Breto, Miami SLAM Academy golf: the senior tied for first in the FHSAA Class 2A Girls’ Golf State Championships and then placed second overall after a playoff. She shot 145 in the 2-day tournament, while helping the Titans place second.

Alexandra Gonzalez Casar, Miami LaSalle basketball: the sophomore had 11 points and 13 rebounds in a close win over TERRA.

Alfredo Dominguez, Miami Mater Lakes Academy swimming: at the FHSAA Class 2A Boys’ Swimming State Championships in Ocala, the senior was second in the 200 free (1:39.89) and 100 butterfly (49.45) and helped the 200 free relay (1:26.18) and 400 free relay (3:08.23) units place second, too, to help the Bears win their first state team title in swimming.

Jadore Hayes, North Miami basketball: the junior had 30 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks in a convincing win over ATM.

Marcelo Mantecon, Miami Belen Jesuit cross-country: the sophomore won the boys’ state title in Class 3A at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee to help the Wolverines win their eighth consecutive FHSAA state championship and 16th overall -- both state records. His winning time 14:57.8 was the second-fastest ever run on that course behind former Tallahassee Chiles runner Patrick Koon (14:56).

Gio Musiello, Miami Gulliver Prep swimming: at the FHSAA Class 2A Girls’ Swimming State Championships in Ocala, the senior won the 200 individual medley (2:04.20), helped the 200 medley place second (1:48.65) and 400 free relay take third (3:37.01) for the third place Raiders.

Sohan Patel, Plantation American Heritage golf: the sophomore won the FHSAA boys’ state title in Class 2A at Mission Inn Resort and Club at Howey-in-the-Hills. He shot 2-under par 68 on round one and 4-under par 66 on round two for 6-under 134, besting last year’s Class 3A champ Taylor Mawhinney of Fleming Island by four strokes and last year’s Class 2A state champ Miami Belen Jesuit’s Lorenzo Rodriguez by six strokes. Patel also helped the Patriots place third.

Maick Simon, Homestead soccer: the senior scored in each match as the Broncos are 4-0. He has totaled 11 goals and two assists in wins over Northwestern 7-0, Miami Coral Park 5-3, Miami Hialeah Gardens 8-0 and Homestead Keys Gate 3-2, including hat tricks the past three games.

Jorge Gonzalez-Tello, Miami Columbus soccer: scored twice as the visiting Explorers edged Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas 2-1 in boys’ soccer.
