Results are in. Miami Belen cross-country standout voted Herald High School Athlete of the Week

Miami Belen cross-country runner Armando Cruz is the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

The sophomore won the Region 4-3A championship in Stuart in 16:10 in leading the Wolverines to the team title with another perfect score (15 points). That marks Belen’s 22nd consecutive regional championship.

Then at state in Tallahassee, Cruz was seventh in 15:39.8 to help Belen win the state title, the team’s eighth consecutive, a state record.

Gabriel Carr, Miami Sunset cross-country; Grace Aldrich, Miami Carrollton cross-country; Arya Luthra, Miami Gulliver Prep golf; Remi Bacardi, Miami Palmer Trinity golf; George Gonzalez, Miami Braddock swimming; Dylan Ferguson, Miami Braddock swimming; Trevor Tingle, Miami Palmetto golf; Shynah Collins, Fort Lauderdale Dillard cross-country; Sabrina Martinez, Miami Riviera Prep cross-country; Grace Finneran, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas cross-country; Jonathan Pena, Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy cross-country; and Mikayla Porter, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas volleyball rounded out the participants in this week’s poll.

The Miami Herald Football and Athlete of the Week polls open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
