Columbus, Pine Crest golf win region titles. Hole-in-one for Tingle. Plus soccer, swimming, more golf
The Miami Columbus boys’ golf team captured its 12th regional title by winning the Region 4-3A Championship at The Park West Palm in West Palm Beach.
The Explorers edged runner-up Lake Worth Park Vista by four strokes. The champs were led by senior Victor Herrera, who placed fourth overall, and sophomore twins Eduardo Perez Sainz and Hector Perez Sainz. Also, senior Nicholas Shortal and senior Carl Tegel.
Miami Palmetto junior Trevor Tingle won the individual title with 4-under par 67, which included scoring a hole-in-one on Hole No.7. He used an 8-iron on that hole, a 190-yard par 3.
Columbus and Tingle advance to state.

The Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest boys’ golf team qualified for state by winning the Region 4-1A Championship at Miami Shores Country Club.
Senior Alexander Weinberg led the champion Panthers by winning individual medalist honors with 6-under par 65. That helped Pine Crest score 277 as a team to edge North Palm Beach Benjamin by four strokes and West Palm Beach Oxbridge Academy by eight strokes.
Miami Ransom Everglades (Jesse Hellring, Navraj Suri, Axel Monssoh, Cole Durham, Matteo Bloom) received an at-large bid to state, after placing fourth in the Region 4-1A team standings. That makes seven state appearances for the Raiders in the past eight seasons.
Miami Country Day 8th grader William Grayson-Richards tied for 22nd while earning an at-large bid to state, along with Florida Christian.
Remi Bacardi, a senior for Miami Palmer Trinity, and Kayla Bryant, a junior for girls’ region champ Boca Raton FAU HS, tied for first at 1-under par 70. A playoff deteremined the individual region champ with Bacardi winning those honors. She is also a district champ.
Pine Crest girls, led by Madison Logan, took runner-up honors in the girls’ team standings.
The Panthers, Carrollton (fourth at region), Bacardi, Sagemont junior Abby Lee (ninth at region), Palmer Trinity freshman Danielle Hernandez, Divine Savior 8th grader Stella Lind and Riviera Prep sophomore Danica Ortega will be at state, too.

Miami Belen Jesuit boys’ golf team made school history at the Region 4-2A Championships at the National Golf and Country Club in Ave Maria.
Belen qualified for state with an at-large bid after placing third with its best performance ever. The Wolverines top five players shot 3-over par 75 or better. They are freshman Beckett Castro (personal best even par 72), junior Daniel Garcia (+1, 73), senior Lorenzo Rodriguez (+2, 74), sophomore Matthew Gonzalez (personal best +2, 74) and sophomore Ryan Nieto (+3, 75).
The top two teams in each region advance to state with another eight at-large teams from four regions also qualifying.
Sophomore Sohan Patel won the individual title for region runner-up Plantation American Heritage. He shot 9-under par 63, one shot better than freshman Isaac Leonardo and sophomore Sarp Gurdogan of region champ Delray Beach American Heritage.
Coconut Creek North Broward Prep junior Max Gressle fired 1-under par 71, tying for fourth and qualifying for state. Castro tied for sixth overall with Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy senior Gavin Duffy and Miami MAST sophomore Borja Friend. Garcia tied for 11th with Plantation American Heritage freshman Brookman Tyrer at 73.
In a close team battle, Delray Beach American Heritage edged Plantation American Heritage by four strokes. Belen was nine shots back from first.

Making its sixth consecutive trip to state, Belen travels to Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills.
Miami Springs senior Gia Culler-Guerra will be there again, too.
After winning her sixth consecutive girls’ district title, Culler-Guerra captured her third consecutive girls’ region championship, winning Region 4-2A with even par 72 in 20 mph wind and rain at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs.
Junior Lilly Riegger of runner-up Plantation American Heritage took runner-up honors individually at 4-over par 76.
Led by freshman Ashley Balcom, senior Dariana Breto and sophomore Sophia Coronel, SLAM won the team title at 324, edging American Heritage by three strokes.
The top two individuals from each region who are not on a state qualifying team automatically advance to state. Then from the four regions, eight at-large selections will compete at state as well.
Gulliver Prep seventh grader Arya Luthra made school history by becoming the first Raiders girls’ golfer to qualify for state.
At that Region 4-2A Championship, Luthra tied for 14th of 71 competitors. She earned a trip to state as one of the state’s eight at-large selections in 2A girls.

Robert Alvarez, George Gonzalez and Anthony Pineiro led the champion Bulldogs. Naiyla Di Sanro, Tania Mantilla and Natalia Ortiz guided the champion Lightning. Top local individuals also included Laila Harran of West Broward and Elyse Wood of Braddock.

Prior to regionals, Cypress Bay swept the District 11-4A championships with Cooper City boys and West Broward girls each placing second. Western was third in both divisions. In Distirct 12-4A, Braddock was first in the boys’ standings, followed by Columbus and Doral Academy. On the girls’ side, Doral Academy won. Braddock was second and Palmetto third.
