Columbus, Ransom Everglades, Westminster Christian win golf titles. Plus Belen cross-country and more

Miami Ransom Everglades swept the team titles at the District 15-1A Golf Tournament at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach.

The district sweep is the first for the Raiders since 2018. It marks the fourth consecutive district title for the boys’ team -- six in the past eight seasons.

The Ransom Everglades boys shot 299, six shots better than runner-up Miami Florida Christian and eight shots ahead of Miami Country Day. William Grayson-Richards, an 8th grader at Miami Country Day, won the individual title with a 1-over par 72.

Jesse Hellring of Ransom Everglades and Matthew Hernandez of Florida Christian tied for second at 73.

The Ransom Everglades girls fired 314, led by individual champion Kate Khvorostiana at even-par 71. Stella Lind of Miami Divine Savior was runner-up at 73.

The Raiders advance to the Region 4 Tournament next week at Miami Shores Country Club.

Miami Westminster Christian won the District 16-1A boys’ team title at Redland Golf & Country Club in Homestead.

Cole Laffere of Miami True North won the individual championship with 5-over par 77. Lorenzo Castro and Jake Suarez tied for second at 82 to lead the champion Warriors. William Foss, also of True North, qualified for regionals as an individual.

Carrollton won the team title in the girls’ division, and Palmer Trinity senior Remi Bacardi won the individual title.

More district golf

The Miami Columbus boys’ golf team won the District 16-3A championship by shooting 299 at the Miami Springs Golf & Country Club.

The Explorers finished second, third, fourth, and fifth overall individually en route to their 26th district title.

Sophomore Hector Perez Sainz (73), senior Victor Herrera (74), senior Carl Tegel (75) and senior Nicholas Shortal (77) led the champs.

Columbus qualified for regionals next week at The Park West Palm Golf Course in West Palm Beach.

Trevor Tingle, a junor at Miami Palmetto, won the individual title, scoring 1-under par 71.

In the girls’ competition, Doral Academy, led by individual champ Maria Laura Quintero, won the team title. Quintero, a senior, shot 3-under par 69 as the Firebirds placed five golfers in the top six.

Cross-country

The Miami Belen Jesuit boys’ cross-country team celebrated another perfect season, winning its final regular season meet.

The Wolverines were first again with an outstanding 20 points at the Jr. Orange Bowl Invitational at Larry & Penny Thompson Park in Miami.

Belen displayed its depth on a deep team as the team’s top 6 runners did not race -- resting for the postseason -- and still dominated.

Senior Joey Diaz-Quintero placed second overall, covering the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes 38.70 seconds. The rest of the Wolverines were within two seconds-plus of Diaz-Quintero. That group featured junior Matthias Murrle (3rd in 16:40.20), freshman Nicholas Veloso (4th in 16:40.21), senior Michael Brunet (5th in 16:40.50) and sophomore Davi Bodoh (6th in 16:40.90).

Miami Sunset senior Gabriel Carr won the race in 16:29.50, and Hollywood McArthur senior Dudley Moise was seventh of 138 runners in 17:09.50.

Miami Columbus took runner-up team honors with 74 points, and Miami Coral Gables was third of 17 teams with 80 points.

In the girls’ field, junior Avril Donner continues to impress with another victory for team champion Miami Coral Gables. Donner bested 81 other runners, placing first in 19:35.70. Junior teammate Yara Korse was third in 21:16.10. Sandwiching them was Miami TERRA senior Abbigail Lane, taking runner-up honors in 20:53.90.

In the team division, Miami Lourdes was a close second with 37 points, just five points behind Coral Gables.

The Cavaliers scored the 1st, 2nd, 4th (Sharon Contreras), 8th (Lauren Puig) and 17th (Lauren Hernandez) team points. Lourdes totaled from 5th (Carlota Tamayo), 6th (Jianna Bustamante), 7th (Chelsea Bobadilla), 9th (Patricia Trujillo) and 10th (Andrea Padron).
