Miami Coral Reef had an outstanding showing at the Larry Wooten Cross-Country Invitational at Larry & Penny Thompson Park in Miami.

With an impressive time of 16:50, senior Luis Marti finished first of 173 runners in the boys’ varsity race. He led the Barracudas to the team title, besting 20 other teams.

Freshman Steve Lundin (17:03), junior Anthony Porter (17:07) and senior Diego Angel (17:41) placed third, fourth and eighth, respectively, and junior Russell Tomlin (18:32) was 16th to soldify that team championship effort.

Not to be outdone, Coral Reef senior Samantha Ruiz won the girls’ varsity race, besting 113 other competitors. She completed the difficult 5K (3.1-mile) course in 20:24. She helped the Barracudas take runner-up honors.

Alysse Guttierez (23:14 - 18th), Sofia Marti (23:18 - 20th), Alex Barrios (23:53 - 23rd), and Camila Sosa (24:13 - 27th) contributed to the team’s solid second-place performance.

Miami Lourdes won the team title in a field of 14 teams. Bobcats junior Daniella Fraga was second overall in 21:00.90. Teammates Emilia Volz (22:34.20 - 11th), Eva Pozo (22:37.50 - 12th), Siena Michalak (23:45.30 - 22nd) and Cecilia de Solo (24:01.20 - 26th) helped capture the team championship.

Golf

Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy won the Girls’ Catholic Quad Golf Tournament at Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables.

The Mavericks were three shots ahead of runner-up Lourdes.

Lourdes teammates Megan Bermejo, a senior, and Gabriella Barcia, a junior, tied for first at 36.

Leading team champion Archbishop McCarthy were junior Paulina Ramirez (third at 37) and senior Audrey Bacic (fifth at 38).

Volleyball

Miami Doral Academy went 3-2 at the Warrior Volleyball Invitational at Miami Westminster Christian School.

The Firebirds (10-11) came from behind to defeat Miami Ransom Everglades 2-1. They also beat Miami St. Brendan 2-0 and Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons 2-0. They lost to Boca Raton Christian (17-3) 2-0 and Orlando Lake Highland Prep (15-5) 2-0.

Boca Raton Christian won the tournament.
