Belen, Carrollton, Lourdes, Westminster Academy win at cross-country invitational. Plus more
Miami Belen Jesuit boys, Miami Carrollton girls, Miami Lourdes girls and Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy boys won team titles during the 42nd annual Spanish River Cross-Country Invitational at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton.
Fort Lauderdale Dillard’s Shynah Collins, an eighth grader, won the individual title in the girls’ 3A-4A race, and her teammate Abigail Richards was runner-up. Lourdes still edged Dillard by two points for the team championship.
Grace Aldrich not only helped lead Carrollton to the team title, but she won the girls’ 1A-2A competition. Her teammate Daniela Hernandez was second in another outstanding 1-2 performance.
On the boys’s side, Westminster Academy’s Jonathan Pena and Tanner Pritchard guided the champion Lions, placing second and third, respectively in the 1A-2A Division.
Even without its top three runners, powerhouse Belen cruised to the team title in the boys’ 3A-4A Division. The Wolverines’ Armando Cruz was the runner-up individually.
▪ GIRLS: 1A-2A: Senior Grace Aldrich of Carrollton won the individual title, finishing first of 282 runners in 18:41.30. Sophomore teammate Daniela Hernandez was runner-up in 18:56.30. They led the Cyclones to the team championship, besting 35 other teams. Carrollton junior Veronica Larrea was 23rd in 21:09.80; senior Sophia Rodriguez was 28th in 21:22.40; and sophomore Emma Filippi was 30th in 21:29.50.

Junior teammate Scott Sanok was 24th in 17:05.50; sophomore Lucas Latimore 28th in 17:08.00; and senior Tyler Pritchard 40th in 17:29.40.

Shynah Collins, an eighth grader at Dillard, won the individual title, besting 275 runners in 18:33.10. Junior teammate Abigail Richards was the runner-up in 18:56.10. Dillard sophomore Peyton Williams was fifth in 19:18.60.
Lourdes senior Lucia Castillo-Rios was ninth in 19:35.00, and sophomore teammate Alessandra Perez was 16th in 19:54.00. Junior Daniella Fraga followed closely in 17th in 19:55.80. Lourdes sophomore Kylie Fernandez was 21st in 20:12.40. Seniors Cristina Sanchez (20:46.10) and Olivia Rodriguez (20:48.50) were 28th and 29th, respectively. Dillard sophomores Kelly Green (21:05.70) and Jaliah Gammage (21:53.50) were 34th and 58th, respectively.

▪ BOYS: 3A-4A: Champion Belen Jesuit continued its major meet winning streak for the season by scoring 50 points. Belen was first of 39 teams in 3A-4A and also recorded the top score (67 points) in all classifications. Sophomore Armando Cruz led the Wolverines by covering the 5k two-loop (3.1-mile course) in 15:36, good for second of 348 runners. Senior teammate Marco Prieguez was sixth in 16:01.00, and senior Diego Magarino was 12th in 16:13.40. Also freshman Nicholas Veloso 16th in 16:16.70 and senior Michael Brunet 19th in 16:19.40. The Wolverines ran without their top three runners (two on college recruiting trips and one resting).
