Divine Savior wins volleyball event. Plus bowling, cross-country, football, golf and more
The Miami Divine Savior girls’ volleyball team won the Estero Wildcat Invitational in Estero.
The Sharks went 5-0, winning 10 of 11 sets. In their lone three-set match, they rebounded after losing a close first set 25-23 to host Estero.
Divine Savior beat Port Charlotte 25-13, 25-14; Naples Palmetto Ridge 25-11, 25-13; Estero 23-25, 25-11, 15-9; Naples First Baptist Academy 25-22, 29-27; and Naples Barron Collier 25-19, 25-19.
The Sharks improved to 11-2.
Top players for Divine Savior in the tournament included:
Sasha Kawas (49 kills, 27 digs, 4 aces); Ruth Martinez (8 aces, 37 kills, 29 digs, 2 blocks); Luiza Bergamaschi (5 aces, 35 kills, 28 digs); Fernanda Bergamaschi (73 assists, 4 aces, 25 digs 2 blocks) and Victoria Gutierrez (41 assists).
More volleyball
In a contest of two solid Miami-Dade County teams, Reagan girls’ volleyball prevailed in five sets over ATM.
The Bison improved to 9-3, while ATM is now 10-2.
Reagan won a close first set 26-24 and took the second 25-21. With their backs against the wall, the Sharks rebounded by wining the next two sets 25-18, 25-19 to force a fifth and deciding set. The Bison then clinched a match victory by winning 15-6.

Golf
The Miami Belen Jesuit boys’ golf team finished sixth of 14 teams at the 2024 South Florida PGA East High School Championship in Boca Raton.
The Wolverines continued to improve with a season best team score of 304 in round one. They bettered that effort in the final round at 302.
Leading Belen was senior Lorenzo Rodriguez (70–72) who finished tied for fifth of 69 players at even par. Sophomore Matthew Gonzalez (78-76) provided his consistent play as did freshman Beckett Castro (77-80). Freshman Marley Caudle (79-86) posted a solid score for the team in round one, and junior Danny Garcia (82-74) bounced back from round one with his season best score in round two.
Football
Miami Ransom Everglades football is now 3-0, after defeating visiting Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest 37-7.
Freshman quarterback Neimann Lawrence was 14-of-19 passing for 194 yards and five touchdowns. Senior receiver Rauli Mators made 4 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.
The Raiders play host Miami LaSalle (3-1) in a district game at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
▪ Miami Jackson (3-2) handed Miami Archbishop Carroll its first loss of the season 36-20 at Miami Curtis Park.
Archbishop Carroll’s Josh Rivera led all rushers with 167 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Kelcey Parrish ran for 124 yards on 14 carries and added a touchdown.
The Bulldogs (4-1) play Miami True North (2-1) in a key district game at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Miami Tropical Park.

Cross-country
The Miami Gulliver Prep cross-country program opened the season at the FNU Invitational in Miami. The boys’ team finished third, and on the girls’ side, Emma Die Dienes placed sixth overall, while teammate Sophie Von Der Goltz was ninth.
In the second meet, the King of the Hill Invitational in Miami, the Raiders girls took fifth. The boys’ race was cancelled because of rainy weather.
In the third meet of the season, the Spanish River Invitational in Boca Raton, the Gulliver Prep girls’ team was runner-up in the 1A-2A Division, and in the boys’ standings, the Raiders were fourth.
Top runners for Gulliver Prep so far this season: Emilio Perez Garcia (16:53), Adrian Iziliaev (16:53), Aleah Sawyer (20:58) and Emma Die-Dienes (21:20).

In a battle of unbeatens, Miami Ferguson defeated Miami Columbus in boys’ bowling.
