Ransom Everglades wins volleyball event. Plus Palmer Trinity golfer Danielle Hernandez and more

The Miami Ransom Everglades girls’ volleyball team won the Palm League Conference Tournament at Gulliver Prep in Miami.

The Raiders defeated Miami Palmer Trinity 25-15, 25-23, Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest 19-25, 27-25, 15-9 and Miami Gulliver Prep 25-21, 20-25, 15-13 en route to the title. In an exciting battle against Pine Crest, Ransom Everglades rallied after dropping the first set.

Julia Lewkowitz led the Raiders with 23 kills, 3 aces and 33 digs. Mia Jean Claude totaled 39 kills and 6 blocks, and Addison Pollock added 38 digs and 4 assists. Lindsay Ng set the table with 40 assists.

With the three victories, Ransom eclipsed the .500 mark at 7-5.

Miami LaSalle reached the 10-win mark in girls’ volleyball.

LaSalle d. SLAM 25-14, 25-16, 25-22: Helenn Montilla 8 kills; Sara Moreno 5 kills, 8 digs; Paola Marin 3 aces, 1 kill, 8 digs. LaS 10-2.

Felix Varela d. Miami Springs 25-18, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18: Giovanna Hernandez 4 solo blocks, 6 kills; Abigail Nunez 20 digs, 5 aces, 7 assists; Joselyn Rodriguez 12 assists, 4 aces, 6 digs; Audrey Zelaya 7 kills, 6 aces, 10 digs. FV 5-3.

Golf

Danielle Hernandez of Miami Palmer Trinity won the girls’ division of the Palm League Conference Golf Championship at Biltmore Golf Course (par 71) in Coral Gables.

Teammate Remi Bacardi tied for second just one stroke back, while Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest was runner-up in the team standings. On the boys’ side, Alexander Weinberg tied for third for third place Pine Crest.

More golf

In a battle of top Miami-Dade County teams, the Miami Columbus boys’ golf team edged Miami Florida Christian 145-149.

Even a 1-hour rain delay could not dampen the spirits of the competitors at Palmetto Golf Course (par 36) in Miami. They did not disappoint.

Medalist honors went to four golfers who tied with an even-par 36. They are Columbus golfers Hector Perez Sainz, Carl Tegel and Jake Williams and Florida Christian golfer Kalani Centeno.

Kevin Corzo of Florida Christian, Joseph Fernández of Columbus and Victor Herrera of Columbus were just one stroke back, tying at 37. Florida Christian’s Mason Keisch and teammate Eros Razuri-Hoyos shot 38 along with Eduardo Perez of Columbus. Matthew Hernandez of Florida Christian scored 39.

Football

The Miami Archbishop Carroll football team defeated visiting Miami SmartEn Academy 42-0 with the defense recording its third consecutive shutout.

Defensive end Josh Velez recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, and Daniel Diaz, Roger Soca and Jonas Taylor each recorded sacks as the defense totaled 8 sacks. Offensively, Davian Pabon threw 2 touchdown passes.

Archbishop Carroll (4-0) will travel to Miami Curtis Park on Friday to play Miami Jackson.

Bowling

Miami Krop bowling is off to a good start, and Miami Columbus and Miami Ferguson’s teams are on a roll.
