Results are in. Belen’s Marcelo Mantecon voted Herald High School Athlete of the Week

Belen Jesuit cross-country runner Marcelo Mantecon is the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Mantecon led the field (294 runners), covering the two loop 5K (3.1-mile) run in a course record 15 minutes and one second at the Cecil Field Summer Classic in Jacksonville. His efforts led the Wolverines to the team title.

Divine Savior volleyball player Sasha Kawas, Coral Reef cross-country runner Samantha Ruiz, Ferguson bowler Rashawn Viart and American Heritage golfer Sohan Patel rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Football and Athlete of the Week polls open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
