The Miami Palmetto and Miami Booker T. Washington football teams were looking to remain unbeaten on Thursday night at Traz Powell Stadium.

They each did. But not the way they hoped.

With the Panthers holding a slim 10-9 lead at halftime, thunderstorms in the area halted the game.

It’s unclear whether the game will be completed at a later date and will therefore remain suspended for the time being. Since Palmetto and Booker T. are not in the same district, the game is not required to be completed.

A 38-yard touchdown pass from Andre Bailey to Kadir Battle put Palmetto (1-0), ranked No. 12 in the latest Miami Herald South Florida rankings, ahead just before halftime.

The Panthers were looking to follow up a huge opening week victory over Homestead.

The ninth-ranked Tornadoes (1-0), who seeking a second consecutive win following last week’s 28-6 win over Homestead South Dade, struck first when 2025 four-star cornerback prospect and University of Florida commit Ben Hanks Jr. returned an interception 103 yards for a touchdown.

Chris Green booted a 29-yard field goal for Palmetto while Christian Flores connected on a 20-yard field goal for Booker T.

Each team has another major test next weekend as Palmetto will travel to face rival Southridge next Friday night at 7:30 at Southridge Stadium while Booker T. will take on Miami Central next Saturday, Sept. 7 at Traz.
