Ransom Everglades’ David Serra had one of the most decorated careers by a cross-country and track and field runner in his school’s history.

And that’s saying something for a program like Ransom with a rich history in both sports.

Serra ended it in style on Friday night by earning two more gold medals at the Class 2A state track championships at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Serra swept the 1,600 and 3,200 meter titles, becoming the only athlete from Miami-Dade or Broward Counties at the meet to win multiple individual events.

Serra added to his total of track titles, giving him four for his career after he swept the two events for the second consecutive season.

Serra ran a time of 4:15.10 to win the mile and then followed with a time of 9:09.15 in the 2-mile to help the Raiders secure a 10th place finish at the meet.

Montverde Academy swept both the boys’ and girls’ team titles.

Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian was South Florida’s highest finisher on the boys’ side, ending up in fourth place and Miami Carrollton also finished fourth to lead all South Florida girls squads.

Serra, a Wake Forest University signee, was one of the Miami Herald’s Runners of the Year in cross-country his junior and senior seasons and a track and field Athlete of the Year his junior season.

In cross-country last fall, Serra won the individual Class 2A state championship - his first. With that, he won the school’s sixth individual title in the sport and became the third runner in program history to do so, joining three-time champion William Convey and two-time champion Bert Irigoyen.

The only other champion at the meet for Dade County was the Miami Carol City girls’ 400-meter relay team, which prevailed with a time of 46.93 seconds.

For Broward County, Cardinal Gibbons’ Bryce Webb, a senior, won the shot put with a winning throw of 17.39 meters. North Broward Prep junior Alexa Schwartz won the javelin with a throw of 44.69 meters.

Stone Bureau led Calvary’s boys with a runner-up finish in the triple jump (13.93 meters), a sixth-place finish in the long jump (6.79 meters) and an eighth-place finish in the high jump (1.82 meters).

Carrollton was led by its 3,200-meter relay team, which ran a time of 9:22.37 to finish second to Jacksonville Bishop Kenny (9:13.84). Sophomore Arianna Garcia scored a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 hurdles (14.19) and 400 hurdles (1:02.01).
