Softball roundup: Coral Reef edges West Broward; Heritage, Doral advance and more
Coral Reef’s softball team hasn’t had to worry much the past four years when it’s needed a big hit and had Rachel Hawkins at the plate.
Hawkins delivered again on Thursday afternoon when she belted a go-ahead solo homer that would spark a three-run fifth inning and propel the Barracudas past West Broward 5-3 in a Region 4-7A quarterfinal at Coral Reef.
The Barracudas (19-8) will next travel to Lake Worth to take on Park Vista on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the regional semifinals.

Erin Zambrano pitched five innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits over five innings, and had two strikeouts and two walks. Alonso pitched two innings and allowed one run on four hits.
