La Salle wins wild one against Miami Springs for first district softball title since 1996
The Immaculata-La Salle softball team trailed host Miami Springs 9-4 in the fifth inning before they struck for eight runs (thanks to seven Springs errors) to take a 12-9 lead and then hung on for the win.
It was a big moment for the Royal Lions as they proudly hoisted a district championship trophy for the first time since 1996.
Jasmine Finley led the way going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and a stolen base, her 29th steal of the season. Ashley Fonseca also enjoyed a big offensive day going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Melissa Carrasco was the winning pitcher tossing a complete game while also going 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs.
La Salle improved to 10-8 but has now drawn a tall task. The Royal Lions will be the No. 8 seed in Region 4-3A and have to travel to Coral Springs to take on Coral Springs Charter, the No. 1 seed and No. 6 state-ranked team (regardless of classification), which sports a 24-3 record.
