The Hialeah Gardens boys’ water polo team finished the regular season 10-8.

The Gladiators had some impressive individual and team accomplishments.

Sophomore driver Enzo Guedes is ranked first nationally in goals with 111, according to a team submission using MaxPreps as of March 22. The Gladiators also have the fifth highest scorer in the nation with freshman Sergio Samada at 95 goals. Freshman goalie Jancarlos Hernandez is off to a promising start, too, with 89 saves and 37 assists.

Hialeah Gardens defeated Cutler Bay (three times), Goleman (twice), Braddock, Coral Gables, Dr. Krop, Miami Beach, and Miami High. The Gladiators, which lost to GMAC champ MAST 12-10, earlier in the season, are ranked 22nd in Florida. They also have close losses to Miami Country Day and Ransom Everglades.

Now onto districts.

Soccer honors

Cindy Marcial of American Heritage-Plantation is the 2024 Florida Dairy Farmers Class 5A Girls’ Soccer Coach of the Year:

That makes her a finalist for overall state girls’ soccer coach of the year honors.

Marcial led the Patriots to a 16-3-1 record and their second straight Class 5A state championship. It was the sixth state title for Heritage under Marcial’s watch (2014-16, 2019, 2023-24).

On the boys’ side, Lionel Brown of South Broward is the Class 6A Boys’ Soccer Coach of the Year.

He guided the Bulldogs to a 20-1-3 record and the Class 6A state title, beating 2023 Class 6A champion Viera 1-0 for the school’s first state title after finishing as the state runner-up four years ago.

Scott Davidson of Gulliver Prep is the Class 4A Boys’ Soccer Coach of the Year. He led the Raiders to a 25-0-2 record and a second straight Class 4A state title. In three years, Davidson has posted a 54-6-7 record.

Both are finalists for overall state boys’ soccer coach of the year honors.
