The top girls’ wrestlers and teams in South Florida had their final bouts Saturday before they vie for state championships in two weeks in Kissimmee.

Four wrestlers - including three from Miami-Dade County - remained undefeated.

Mater Lakes and North Miami continue to be among the toughest squads.

But South Dade’s depth continues to remain unmatched.

Despite not having a single individual champion, the Bucs secured the team championship of the Region 4-1A meet on Saturday at Bayside High in Palm Bay with a score of 129. South Dade edged runner-up Wellington by 11 points. Mater Lakes finished third with 114 points with North Miami placing fourth with 85 points.

Eighth grader Abigail Gonzalez also remained unbeaten after a 14-4 major decision victory over Fort Pierce Central’s Mackenzie Allcroft in the 105-pound final.

She was one of two regional champions for Mater Lakes along with senior Sofia Ferran, who won the 110 pound title.

North Miami’s Mya Bethel continued to dominate her weight class, cruising to the championship of the 145-pound division as she chases her third consecutive state title. Bethel and junior Isis Severe, who won the 120-pound championship, were the two winners for the Pioneers.

Stoneman Douglas’ Gabriela Caro, who is aiming to win back-to-back state titles, scored a pin over Florida Christian’s Rachel Silva in 3:20 to win the 130-pound championship. Caro remains Broward County’s only unbeaten wrestler entering the state meet.

Coral Park’s Sofia Delgado also remained undefeated after a pin in 1:34 of Space Coast’s Kylie Magnum at 140 pounds.

South Dade’s top finisher was senior Anisah Paz, who lost in the final of the 145-pound weight class to Mater Academy senior Emily Jaspe after she scored a pin in 3:09.
