Big soccer wins for Gulliver girls, Cypress Bay boys. Plus region wrestling duals and more
The Gulliver Prep girls’ soccer team won two more games to eclipse the .500 mark at 7-6-2.
Stella Bellastrazzi scored the winner off an assist from team captain Victoria Figueroa as the Raiders edged Key West 1-0. Goalkeeper Ana Armesto Levy recorded the shutout. Key West is 5-5-1.
Prior, Gulliver Prep blanked Coral Shores 3-0 with Levy posting another shutout. Mia Sullivan and Figueroa each scored, and Bellastrazzi had a goal and an assist.

Cypress Bay boys’ soccer handed South Broward its first defeat in 14 games, edging the Bulldogs 2-1. St. Thomas Aquinas tied Pembroke Pines Charter and beat Reagan, and Doral Academy edged Belen Jesuit and Palmetto.
Divine Savior and Ransom Everglades played to a tie, and on the girls’ side, American Heritage-Plantation won a tight battle with Lourdes to give the Patriots nine wins and counting.

Wrestling duals
Somerset-Pembroke Pines wrestling came from behind to defeat Mater Lakes to win the Region 4-1A Duals, qualifying for state.
Trailing 23-6, the Panthers rallied to win 30-29 with senior standout Kendrick Hodge recording a walk-off pin at 175 pounds to seal it. Hodge won state last year at 160 pounds.
Next for Somerset at state duals is Jensen Beach, which won state the past two seasons.
Powerhouse South Dade in 3A will be there, too. The Buccaneers vie for their sixth state duals title and 24th state team championship overall.
South Dade defeated Southwest Miami 60-10 and Columbus 60-9 at regionals for another opportunity at state duals.
State duals are Jan. 19-20 at Osceola High School in Kissimmee.
