Miramar wrestling qualifies for state. Plus college signings, Somerset wrestling and more

The Miramar wrestling team won the Region 4-2A Duals to qualify for state.

Miramar edged Mater Academy 35-31 in the finals. The Patriots defeated Homestead 52-9 in the semifinals.

State duals are Jan. 19-20 at Osceola High School in Kissimmee.

Somerset-Pembroke Pines wrestling won the 13th annual Somerset Scuffle at its gym.

The Panthers scored 560 points, 245.5 points better than runner-up Key West.

College signings

Belen Jesuit announces four student athletes signed their national letters of intent to play their sport at the collegiate level. The signing ceremony occurred at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in the Sarría Family Dining Hall.

“These students are great examples of what hard work and dedication to their sport and academics can accomplish,” said Belen Athletic Director Lázaro Fernández. “We look forward to watching them flourish at the next level and will be cheering them on.”

Soccer

Annabelle Rhodes scored five times for Chaminade-Madonna girls’ soccer in a 5-2 win over Hollywood Hills, and Alejandro Hernandez had four goals in two games for Coral Reef boys’ soccer, including three in a 6-3 win over Florida Christian.

American Heritage-Plantation girls played Stoneman Douglas to a scoreless tie, and the American Heritage boys edged the Eagles 3-2.
