Weightlifting season begins. Plus basketball and soccer results and some college signings
The Queen of the South Tournament helped kicked-off the high school girls’ weightlifting season at Doctors Charter School in Miami Shores.
Eight schools sent athletes to compete as a precursor to districts in January. Schools included AIE (Academy for Innovative Education), Archbishop McCarthy, Avant Garde, Doctors Charter, Imagine School, Key West, Lake Wales, and COHEA.
Emma Van Arman, last year’s third place finisher at state, took first place in the 139-pound division in Olympic and Traditional. A senior at AIE, she has her sights set on a state championship as evidenced by her winning the Sinclair Award for the tournament in both categories. The Sinclair Formula is a mathematical equation designed to establish who is the best lifter across all weight groups.
