Here’s where South Florida’s high school football teams stand in FHSAA’s first rankings

We’ve reached the midway point of the high school football regular season.

And while several of Miami-Dade and Broward County’s elite teams have excelled as expected, the season hasn’t been without its share of surprises.

There are still several meaningful games still to be played on the road to the state tournament Dec. 7-9 in Tallahassee as teams are still in the early stages of their district schedules in most cases.

But this week, the Florida High School Athletic Association released its first power rankings - which will determine the teams that make the postseason as well as seeding in each of the four Metro classifications where South Florida teams play.

So here’s a region-by-region look at where Dade and Broward teams stand in the current playoff picture through week 5 of the regular season.

The top eight teams in each region in Classes 4M-2M qualify for the postseason. In Class 1M, the top four teams advance. District champions automatically earn a playoff berth regardless of their FHSAA ranking and would earn a spot ahead of an at-large qualifier with a higher ranking.
