South Dade QB Calixte throws 3 TDs to help Bucs crush rival Miami Killian
It’s been tough times lately for South Dade football.
The Bucs, now with a new coach in Chris Reid, have taken a few steps back in recent years, a lifetime from when they won a state title 10 years ago, and taken a backseat to local rival Homestead.
But Reid’s work in trying to build things back up took another positive step on Monday afternoon when the Bucs, in a game many thought might be close and competitive, wound up blowing out Miami Killian 42-6 at Tropical Park Stadium.
The game was played four days after being postponed due to inclement weather this past Thursday.
The win improved South Dade’s record to 2-1 while the Cougars, after opening the season with three losses to powers Booker T. Washington, Columbus and Palmetto, fell to 0-4.
Quarterback Jean Calixte was the big producer for the Bucs as he tossed three touchdown passes in the first half and then ran another one in from 13 yards on an option left midway through the third quarter to put South Dade up 28-6.
Calixte found Sedric Melvin for a 23-yard score and followed that up with a 30-yard strike to Edward Farley-Kendrick and a 7-yarder to Antravious Shropshire a minute before halftime to put the Bucs up 21-6 at the break.
South Dade wrapped up the scoring with two fourth quarter touchdowns, a 3 -yard run by running back Chaz Milton and a 55-yard scoop and score fumble return by Tobias Laines with 5:43 left which got the running clock going.
