Ransom Everglades secures Youth Fair boys’ golf title, Divine Savior senior wins playoff

Ransom Everglades boys’ golf team set a goal this season to put itself back among the state’s elite teams.

The Raiders’ strong finishes in recent weeks has helped them make progress.

Ransom’s latest step in the right direction came Tuesday afternoon when it bested perennial state title contender Columbus by two strokes to win the Youth Fair boys’ golf championship at Country Club of Miami.

The Raiders shot a 297 collectively as Columbus finished in a second-place tie with Florida Christian.

Divine Savior senior Daniel Vanososte edged Florida Christian sophomore Matthew Hernandez to win the individual title in a playoff as each shot a 1-under par 69.

Seniors Jackson Langer and Nick Viana each shot a 72 to round out the top 10 individually and lead the Raiders, who won their first Youth Fair title since 2018. That season, Ransom made it to state and was led by Jake Beber-Frankel, who now plays for Stanford University.

“We played in the Central Florida Invitational in Orlando last week and we finished sixth. That was a big deal for us because we were playing a lot of elite teams,” Ransom coach Dave Ragan said. “It was really close and it was just strong leadership from my seniors. They want to make a mark this year and I think we have a really good shot to compete for a title.”

The Raiders’ seniors weren’t the only clutch performers on Tuesday.

Axel Monssoh, a sixth-grader who is ranked in the top 10 in the world among 11-year old players, came through with a clutch par on the final hole to help secure the team title. Monssoh shot 76 overall.

“He can handle pretty much any situation,” Ragan said.
