The Columbus boys’ golf team had a busy few days, traveling cross country.

The Explorers flew to Arizona, competing in the Brophy Rodeo, one of the premier high school golf tournaments in the country.

The event featured teams from throughout the United States including Arizona, Texas, Utah, Hawaii, Florida, Nevada and Illinois.

Columbus, which finished 11th of 20 teams, was led by junior Hubert Ramirez (31st of 108 golfers) and freshman Hector Perez Sainz (42nd). Teammates Nicholas Shortal, Victor Herrera, Joe Fernandez, and Nick Rousseau also fared well to help the team.

Two days later, Columbus participated in another big tournament, the (Plantation) American Heritage Invitational at Lago Mar in Fort Lauderdale. The Explorers shot 307 to place third, behind champion (North Palm Beach) Benjamin (288) and runner-up American Heritage (298).
