Miami Norland QB Ennio Yapoor leads Vikings to win over defending state champ Lakeland

LAKELAND – You needed a calculator to keep up with this one.

Norland opened its season knocking off the defending Class 4S state champions Lakeland at Bryant Stadium Friday, 48-34.

But the night belonged to Norland junior quarterback Ennio Yapoor, who accounted for six touchdowns.

Yapoor threw two touchdown passes to Jade Card, including a 58-yarder in the first half and 30-yarder in the second. He also hooked up with Joaquin Reid twice, tossing a 20-yard touchdown pass in the first half and 30-yard scoring strike in the second. Yapoor added a 39-yard touchdown pass to Ivory Aikens in the second quarter.

On the ground, Yapoor scored on a 7-yard run in the third quarter and Juan Rodriguez scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter.

Lakeland opened the game big, getting a 99-yard touchdown return from Rick Penick, who scored three times on the night.

Lakeland quarterback Zander Smith also had a huge night, throwing four touchdown passes of 32, 8, 49 and 27 yards.
