Gulliver, Palmetto, St. Thomas, True North sweep region tennis titles. Plus more sports results

Gulliver Prep, Palmetto, St. Thomas Aquinas and True North topped the region finals list in the area by winning in both boys’ and girls’ divisions.

True North celebrated back-to-back region titles in boys’ and girls’ tennis in Class 1A, making it a second consecutive clean sweep en route to state.

Gulliver Prep boys and girls also won region titles, a sweep in Class 2A, with the boys edging MAST 4-3 and the girls repeating as region champions by gaining a 5-0 victory also over MAST.

In the boys’ close win, the Raiders won both doubles matches to claim the title. The No.1 doubles team (Pierce Garbett/Nicolas Verdu) clinched it with a 10 point tie-breaker after more than 5 1/2 hours of tennis at Crandon Park.

In Class 4A boys’ region finals, Cypress Bay shut out Stoneman Douglas 5-0, and Palmetto beat Coral Gables 4-1. In girls, Stoneman Douglas defeated Cypress Bay 4-0, and Palmetto defeated Doral Academy 4-0.

This marks the first time Palmetto advances to state in boys’ and girls’ tennis since 2018 when the Panthers won both state team titles. The boys are 14-0 and the girls 15-0 this season.

In Class 3A boys, after beating Varela 6-1 in a region semifinal, St. Thomas Aquinas edged Belen Jesuit 4-3 for a region championship. In girls, St. Thomas Aquinas shut out TERRA 5-0.

In a Class 2A boys’ region final, American Heritage-Delray Beach beat Pine Crest 4-0. On the girls’ side, American Heritage-Delray Beach edged Pine Crest 4-3.

Mater Lakes Academy boys’ volleyball won its 20th match of the season with a three-set victory over Calvary Christian. The Bears improved to 20-2.
