Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (March 5)

Miami-Dade County’s top athletes continue to impress as the boys’ basketball and wrestling reached the conclusions of their seasons and multiple spring sports moved into their second week.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, March 9, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Gustavo Guimaraes, Riviera Prep, boys’ basketball: Guimaraes scored 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting and recorded four steals to lead the Bulldogs to a dominant 51-27 win over Windermere Prep and win the school’s first state championship in a team sport.

Cayden Boozer, Columbus, boys’ basketball: Boozer scored 21 points to lead the Explorers past Winter Haven 50-48 and had 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in a semifinal win over Orlando Colonial to help Columbus win its second consecutive state championship.

Michael Bradley, Mater Lakes, boys’ basketball: Bradley hit five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points to lead the Bears to a 77-41 rout of The Villages Charter and the school’s first state team championship in any sport.

Javi Rosell, Belen Jesuit, boys’ basketball: Rosell scored 22 of the Wolverines’ 49 points during a 49-30 win over Daytona Beach Mainland that secured the school’s first state championship in the sport.

Lawrence Rosario, South Dade, boys’ wrestling: Rosario scored an upset of two-time defending state champion Gunner Holland of Kissimmee Osceola on his way to winning the 170-pound state championship as part of the Bucs’ dominant state championship team win in Class 3A.

Leah Maduro, Ransom Everglades, softball: Maduro threw a no-hitter and struck out 10 to lead the Raiders to a win over Gulliver Prep.
