Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Feb. 19)
Miami-Dade County’s top athletes continue to impress as the winter sports playoffs reached their respective regional championship rounds.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Feb. 23, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Isaiah Williams, Dade Christian, boys’ basketball: Williams had 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead the Crusaders to a win over Jupiter Christian in a Region 4-2A quarterfinal.
▪ Jalynn Belton, Miami Country Day, girls’ basketball: Belton had 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the Spartans to a 55-39 win over Westminster Academy in the Region 4-3A final.
▪ Cosme Salas, Gulliver, boys’ soccer: Salas scored three goals - all in the second half - to lift the Raiders to a 3-0 victory over Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons in the Region 4-4A final.
▪ J-Roc Lopez, True North, boys’ basketball: Lopez scored 23 points and had eight rebounds and seven steals to lead the Titans to a win over Atlantic Christian in a Region 4-2A quarterfinal.
▪ Coco Aguilar, Lourdes, girls’ soccer: Aguilar scored two goals in the final 17 minutes of regulation to lead the Bobcats to a 2-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas and clinch a return trip to the state final.
▪ Emma Van Arman, AIE Charter, girls’ weightlifting: Van Arman placed third in Olympic Lifting in the 139-pound division of Class 1A during the FHSAA State Weightlifting Championships. She was South Florida’s top finisher in Class 1A of all weight divisions.
