Lourdes ends McCarthy’s streak in girls’ soccer. Plus American Heritage soccer and more
In a battle of two of the top girls’ soccer teams in South Florida, Lourdes edged visiting Archbishop McCarthy 1-0.
It marked the first defeat for the Mavericks, after 16 consecutive wins this season.
Sophomore Sienna Aviles scored the winner in the first half off an assist from junior Tessa Abreu. Senior goalkeepers Gabriella Paredes and Stephanie Wyszkowski combined on the shutout.
Lourdes (11-1-2) also owns victories over TERRA, Carrollton, St. Thomas Aquinas, Mariner-Cape Coral, Downtown Doral, Boca Raton, St. Brendan, Gulliver Prep, Palmetto and LaSalle. The Bobcats tied Doral Academy and Ransom Everglades and their lone loss is to American Heritage-Plantation.The Bobcats have nine shutouts.and allowed one goal three times. Mariner scored twice, and American Heritage-Plantation four times.
McCarthy (16-1) beat Franklin Academy, Cooper City, Calvary Christian, Carrollton, LaSalle, Western, Don Soffer Aventura, Palmetto, South Florida HEAT, Somerset Academy-Pembroke Pines, Westminster Christian, Cardinal Gibbons, Coral Springs Charter, NSU University, Mater Lakes Academy, and St. Thomas Aquinas. The Mavericks recorded 11 shutouts and allowed just one goal in each of the six other games.

American Heritage-Plantation reached the 10-win mark again on the girls’ side.
The Patriots only losses are to Doral Academy (1-0) and Boca Raton (2-1). They tied North Fort Myers and Benjamin-Palm Beach Gardens.
