Poll: Which Dade high school girls’ volleyball player is your Player of the Year?

The 2022 high school volleyball season featured many standout players and performances once again in Miami-Dade County.

The Miami Herald recently published its All-Dade volleyball team as well as its Players and Coaches of the Year.

This week, the Herald is asking you to vote on who you think was the best overall of those players this season.

Below is a look at the players who earned first team honors this season. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Monday, Jan. 9, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates:

Annelise Alvarez, St. Brendan: Alvarez, a junior outside hitter, played a key role for the Sabres with 204 kills, 30 aces and 222 digs.

Gabriella Arroyo, Westminster Christian: Arroyo, a senior outside hitter, totaled 293 kills, 307 digs and 24 aces with clutch performances to lead the Warriors back to the state final.

Gigi Artiles, Westminster Christian: Artiles, a multi-sport freshman standout, played outside and finished with 225 kills, 33 blocks for the Warriors during their dominant season.

Hailey Brenner, Gulliver Prep: Brenner, a junior outside hitter, finished with 324 kills and 237 digs to propel the Raiders to the Region 4-4A final.

Aliyah Cadavid, Westminster Christian: Cadavid, a senior outside hitter and solid defender, finished with 267 digs, 86 kills, 44 aces and averaged 11.3 receptions per match.

Agatha Gonzalez, Ferguson: Gonzalez, a junior outside hitter, totaled 356 kills, 225 digs and 24 aces as she led the Falcons to a GMAC title and the Region 4-7A semifinals.

Melissa Gonzalez, Doral Academy: Gonzalez, a sophomore setter, finished with 581 assists, 48 aces and 114 digs while anchoring the Firebirds’ march to the Region 4-7A final.

Olivia Guzman, Lourdes: Guzman, a sophomore middle hitter, had 160 kills, 32 aces and 44 blocks while leading the Bobcats to the Class 4-6A regional final.

Thalia Iglesias, Divine Savior Academy: Iglesias, a senior setter, totaled 618 assists, 183 digs and 95 kills to lead the Sharks to the Region 4-3A finals.

Emily Matias, Westminster Christian: Matias, a senior outside hitter, was dominant again for the Warriors, totaling 317 kills, 158 digs and 36 aces.

Zoey Matias, Westminster Christian: Matias, a sophomore libero, anchored the Warriors’ defense with 418 digs, 94 assists and 39 aces on their way back to the Class 3A state finals.

Izabela Molina, Doral Academy: Molina, a junior middle hitter, totaled 209 kills and 44 blocks while leading the Firebirds to the Region 4-7A final.

Carmen Rionda, Lourdes: Rionda, a senior outside hitter, totaled 153 kills, 25 blocks and 30 digs while helping the Bobcats reach the regional finals for the first time.

Sofia Santamaria, Lourdes: Santamaria, a senior outside hitter, led the Bobcats’ advance to the Region 4-6A final with 156 kills, 48 aces and 210 digs.

Jackie Taylor, Gulliver Prep: Taylor, a junior middle hitter, finished with 351 kills and 104 blocks to lead the Raiders to the Region 4-4A final.

Ana Sofia Tobar, St. Brendan: Tobar, a junior outside hitter, totaled 212 kills, 36 aces and 193 digs to lead the Sabres to the Class 4A state semifinals.

Sydney Wilson, Miami High: Wilson, a sophomore setter and outside hitter totaled 109 kills, 389 assists and 179 digs to lead the Stingarees to the Region 4-7A quarterfinals.

Angelin Vazquez, Doral Academy: Vazquez, a junior libero, was great on the back row for the Firebirds, finishing with 49 aces and 420 digs.
