Titletown South Florida: Deep QB class had great week, our playoff breakdown Pt. 2, and picks
Titletown South Florida, the Miami Herald’s High School sports weekly show, is back with even more highlights, analysis and interviews from one of the top weekends of the football season so far as well as a look ahead to the upcoming playoffs which are now three weeks away.
In this, the show’s seventh episode, Miami Herald Deputy Sports Editor Andre Fernandez and sportswriter David Wilson talk about what went down as the game of the year so far when Central barely held off Columbus in a battle of two state championship contenders last week.
Also in this week’s show:
▪ We look at the impact the return of Homestead’s QB1 Joshua Townsend had on the Broncos as they bounced back with a major victory over Northwestern that was aided by six Bulls’ turnovers.
▪ Our hosts look at the evolution of Booker T. Washington into a run-oriented team led by Antwan Smith and how that could favor the Tornadoes in a tough Class 2M playoff bracket.
▪ We also look at other contenders such as Miami Norland and Gulliver Prep, who are trying to break through with strong performances in the second half of the season.
▪ We also salute the week’s best performances by giving shout-outs to the nominees of our Player of the Week polls., which include Archbishop Carroll’s Alejandro Isaza following the Bulldogs’ big district championship-clinching win over Westminster Christian.
▪ As promised, we break down what the playoff picture is looking like in Classes 2M and 1M. Wait, there’s more in 1M than just Chaminade? Yes.
▪ And finally we make our picks for some of the top games in week 10 highlighted by a couple which will decide district championships including Gulliver-South Miami, Krop-McArthur and Plantation-Piper.
