When Braddock and Coral Reef decided to wait four days to finish a game they had started last week, nobody could have anticipated how much the wait would’ve turned out to be worth it.

The two teams resumed their contest beginning in the second half on Monday afternoon at Coral Reef High School with Braddock leading 14-7.

The second half turned out to be a shootout with a frantic finish with Braddock coming out on top, 35-34.

Coral Reef scored with 1:27 left on an Abraham Mole touchdown run to cut Braddock’s lead to one. After Braddock jumped offside on the PAT attempt moving the ball to the one, Reef head coach Tim Wood rolled the dice and pulled his PAT team off the field and went for two.

A rushing attempt up the middle was stuffed by Brian Del Rio and Brandon Rodriguez to preserve the win. The game was a showdown for first place in the southern division of the GMAC Independent Conference as the Bulldogs are off to their first 3-0 start since 2010. Coral Reef fell to 2-2.

“I think the last three times we’ve played this team, it’s come right down to the final minute,” Braddock coach Juan Torres said. “Just a great game to be a part of between two really evenly matched teams. I told our kids after the game to enjoy it but to be ready because we might wind up facing them again in the playoffs.”
