Poll: Which high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Sept. 11)
The 2022-23 high school sports season continued to heat up as it moved into its third week and led to more memorable performances by South Florida athletes.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in South Florida high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Sept. 15, around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.
Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Ahmere Foster, Columbus, football: Foster recorded two key interceptions including one that turned the momentum for the Explorers in a 32-15 win over defending state champion Tampa Jesuit.
▪ Olivia Fraga, Lourdes, girls’ cross-country: Fraga repeated as Dade County Youth Fair champion after winning the race with a time of 19:37.15.
▪ Deandre Desinor, North Broward Prep, football: Desinor ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries to lead the Eagles to a 20-13 win over Pembroke Pines Charter.
▪ Celimar Hoyos, Archbishop McCarthy, volleyball: Hoyos finished with 17 kills, 37 digs and three aces to lead the Mavericks to a four-set win over Cypress Bay.
▪ Jadyn Glasser, South Plantation, football: Glasser ran for four touchdowns and threw for 209 yards and two more touchdowns to lead the Paladins to a 41-6 win over Northeast and their third consecutive win to open the season.
