It’s “Destiny” for Miami Springs at GMAC softball. Divine Savior tennis sets mark. Plus more

Bill Daley/For the Miami Herald

Destiny Lake has basically done it all for the Miami Springs softball team this season.

And she did so again as the Golden Hawks edged TERRA 5-4 in eight innings in a GMAC quarterfinal at Miami Springs High.

Lake struck out 12 batters without a walk. Offensively, she helped her cause with a double, a triple, a run and three RBI as Springs remained unbeaten at 8-0.

“Just happy to do my part in helping us win,” said Lake, who has 64 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched this season. “It feels great to get this win because TERRA was the biggest challenge we’ve faced yet.”

After falling behind 2-0, Lake tied the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the first. She gave her team a 3-2 lead with an RBI single in the third. Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Lake tripled and scored the tying run on a Jerica Gomez groundout.

Springs won it in the eighth as Gabbi Morales (who had two hits) reached third with one out and scored when Gomez made contact on an RBI ground ball to shortstop.
