Palmetto tennis sweeps GMAC. Riviera Prep’s Eric Fernandez hits milestone. Plus more results

The Palmetto boys’ and girls’ tennis teams dominated GMAC for the second consecutive year.

Palmetto’s boys defeated TERRA 4-1 in the semifinals and then defeated Miami Beach 4-0 in the finals for another GMAC title.

Palmetto is 10-1.

Palmetto’s girls defeated TERRA 4-0 in the semifinals and then Krop 4-0 in the finals to win that GMAC title again.

Palmetto is 9-1.

The Panthers boys’ and girls’ teams are coached by Kelly Gibson.

Baseball

In a victory over Sunset, Eric Fernandez of Riviera Prep reached 100 career RBI, believed to be the quickest to 100 RBI in Miami Dade County history, since stats began being maintained, according to Riviera Prep coach Emilio Fernandez.

The milestone was reached with his grand slam home run, which is his fourth career grand slam. The University of Miami commit currently leads the state in RBI with 29. Fernandez led the county in RBI last season with 50.

More excitement on the local diamonds, Alejandro Ludeiro hit a walk-off three-run home run as Doral Academy edged Gulliver Prep 7-6. West Broward won a thriller over Flanagan, and Coral Springs Charter came from behind to beat Belen.
