In one season, Ta’Niya Latson made quite a splash when she transferred to state powerhouse Plantation American Heritage.

After leading the Patriots to their fifth consecutive state title this past February, the accolades continued to roll in for the McDonald’s All-American who transferred from Westlake High in Atlanta before the season.

Latson, also the Gatorade Player of the Year, was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Association’s 2022 Miss Basketball this week.

The 5-9 senior guard, who has signed to play for the Florida State Seminoles, averaged 27.2 points, 7.0 assists, 8.0 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 2.0 blocks per game.

This past week, Latson scored 15 points, had three rebounds and blocked a shot in 13 minutes in the McDonald’s All-American game.

Latson became the first winner from a Broward County school since South Broward’s Krystal Saunders in 2010 and third all-time along with Blanche Ely’s LaToya Jordan (1997).

Latson is the first from a South Florida school since Miami High’s Beatrice Mompremier won the honor in 2015.
