Western baseball is on a win-streak, & Pompano wins again. Plus Southwest volleyball and more

The Western baseball team is on a roll, winning five consecutive, including victories over Krop and Champagnat.

The Wildcats scored twice in the first, twice in the fifth and once in the sixth in defeating Krop 5-0.

Western then edged Champagnat 10-9.

The Wildcats led 7-0 and later 10-4. Champagnat rallied, scoring three in the sixth and two in the seventh, but the Wildcats hung on for the win, improving to 7-2.

With three more victories, the Southwest boys’ volleyball team is undefeated at 5-0.

The Eagles beat Columbus, Miami High and St. Brendan, each in four sets.

Belen Jesuit went 2-3 during the Jungle Queen Invitational at Cardinal Gibbons in Fort Lauderdale. It marked the first losses of the season for the Wolverines (8-3).

They beat Port Orange-Spruce Creek (25-19, 26-24) and Loxahatchee-Seminole Ridge (26-24, 25-17). They lost to Orlando-Freedom (25-19, 27-25), Flanagan (25-22, 23-25, 20-18) and Orlando-Bishop Moore (25-23, 17-25, 15-9).

For the tournament, Gabriel Suarez 21 kills, 29 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces; Marcelo Morales 23 kills, 6 blocks, 3 aces; Federico Marino 12 kills, 10 blocks; Robert Henao 51 assists, 10 kills, 7 blocks, 18 digs.
