Belen boys’ volleyball remains unbeaten. Another no-hitter for Austin Simmons and more results

The Belen Jesuit boys’ volleyball team remained undefeated with a three-set victory over St. Brendan.

Robert Henao had 17 assists, 3 kills, 8 digs and 2 blocks as the Wolverines improved to 6-0. Gabriel Suarez totaled 9 kills and 10 digs.

Doctors Charter baseball won its second game this season, and both were no-hitters from freshman pitcher Austin Simmons. The first was against Marathon and the second against Westwood Christian.

In girls’ lacrosse, Western handed Cardinal Gibbons (7-1) its first loss of the season. The Wildcats (7-3) led 6-5 at halftime and extended that lead, winning 15-9.

Soccer

Some area girls’ soccer coaches were in the running for state Coach of the Year honors in their respective classification under the Florida Dairy Farmers banner.

They were voted on by coaches and media. Here is how they placed.

Class 7A: 2. Kate Dwyer (Cypress Bay). 6A: 2. David Fique (Lourdes). 3A: 3. Tricia Amrhein (North Broward Prep).

Also, Leah Finkelman of North Broward Prep was third in the state in the Class 3A Player of the Year voting.

Baseball
