Austin Simmons tosses first no-hitter in Doctors Charter history. Plus more preps results

What a way for a team to record its first win of the season.

Freshman Austin Simmons pitched the first no-hitter in Doctors Charter history as the Hawks baseball team defeated Marathon 11-0.

Doctors Charter baseball coach Calvin Johnson said: “Being in my first year as head coach at Doctors Charter, I’ve seen no-hitters on TV, but to witness it live and it’s your very own pitcher, it was ‘euphoric’ to say the least. Austin is a special talent.”

Simmons went the distance, hurling five innings with two walks and 15 strikeouts. He also helped his cause, batting 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Junior Guillen also hit well, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Alex De La Cruz went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

This is the eighth season for baseball at Doctors Charter.

Simmons is an interesting story. He is a dual-enrollment student with an impressive 5.23 GPA. A two-sport star with a solid arm, he is a pitcher and center fielder for the Hawks.

Simmons is also a 4-star quarterback with 11 NCAA Division I offers.

Doctors Charter doesn’t offer football, so he plays that sport for Pahokee High School, where his dad lives.

In 2019, Johnson received an ESPY from ESPN for resurrecting baseball at Miami Central High.
