Rivals South Dade & Southwest share region wrestling title. Taravella baseball wins big & more
The past two seasons (and probably longer) South Dade and Southwest have been battling for wrestling supremacy at GMAC, district, region and state. It’s been a see-saw battle with each big tournament.
At the Region 4-3A Tournament at Braddock High School, this time the two state powers tied, sharing the region title.
Everyone goes home happy or maybe not. Tiebreaker at state.
Southwest, coached by Mick Arteaga, advanced 11 to state, the most in the state this season in Class 3A and tied for the most in all classifications. They are: Gabriel Tellez (Region Champ at 106), Kevin Placer (Region Champ at 113), Ryan Cominsky (2nd at 120), Favian Oliva (4th at 132), Danny Martinez (Region Champ at 138), Lester Martinez (2nd at 145), Adrian Ochoa (2nd at 152), Danny Diaz (2nd at 160), Franklyn Ordonez (Region Champ at 182), Jonathan Fraga (2nd at 220); and Adrian Sans (Region Champ at 285).
