Doral doing well in girls’ soccer and cheerleading. Plus Lourdes soccer, LaSalle cheer and more

District tournaments for boys and girls’ soccer are underway.

The host Doral Academy girls’ soccer team qualified for regionals by shutting out Coral Park in a District 16-6A semifinal.

Antonella Monsalve scored five goals, and Aaliyah Perez added two goals.

The Firebirds (12-3-1) play Lourdes in the district finals on Wednesday. The Bobcats (12-1-3) beat Varela to advance to that district title match and regionals.

Alexandra Diaz and Sienna Aviles each scored three goals for Lourdes, and Olivia Borroto, Tessa Abreu and Amanda Maceiras added two each. Borroto also had two assists and Maceiras one.

Cardinal Gibbons boys and University School boys also qualified for regionals in their respective district tournaments.

Competitive cheerleading

The FHSAA Competitive Cheer State Championships are Tuesday and Wednesday in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center of the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Tuesday is Class 2A and Wednesday Class 1A.

Stevie Ricklick made two free throws with eight seconds left to secure the victory as the TERRA girls’ basketball team edged Coral Shores 35-33. It marked the eighth victory in nine games for the Wolves (12-6) since the winter break.
