American Heritage sweeps district titles. Ransom Everglades boys win. Plus more district golf

The Ransom Everglades boys’ golf team won a district title, and Florida Christian’s Nicholas Prieto was the individual district winner in a 1A district tournament at Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables.

This marked the fourth district title in five seasons for the Raiders and tied their lowest 18-hole team score this season.

Gulliver Prep qualified for regionals as the district runner-up, and third place True North Classical Academy, a first-year program, also advanced with Dylan Grassbaugh scoring 80; Kevin Corzo 81; Mason Keich 84; Cole Laffere 93.

In district golf, the top three teams and top three individuals not on those teams qualify for regionals.

Champion Heritage

American Heritage (Plantation) swept the boys’ and girls’ championships at 2A district tournaments.

The boys were at The Saints at Port St. Lucie Golf Course and the girls at Eagle Marsh Golf Club in Jensen Beach.

Luke Clanton and Katherine Schaefer, both of American Heritage, won the boys’ and girls’ individual district titles.

Clanton, a senior, and teammate Gabriel Hegerstrom, also a senior, each shot 66 to tie for first. A playoff determined the champion with Clanton sinking a birdie on the first playoff hole to seal the victory.

Five American Heritage golfers placed in the Top 10 as the Patriots scored a winning 9-under par 279. That was 14 shots better than runner-up American Heritage (Delray Beach).

MCD golf

Alex Pool of Miami Country Day won the girls’ title, and Matthew Yamin also of Miami Country Day won the boys’ title in a 1A district tournament at Miami Shores Country Club.

They qualified for regionals. The Spartans boys’ team advanced to regionals, too.

The North Broward Prep boys’ golf team beat (Boca Raton) FAU High School in a playoff to finish second in a 1A district tournament at Country Club of Coral Springs.

Archbishop McCarthy, Belen Jesuit golf

The Archbishop McCarthy boys’ golf team edged Belen Jesuit by two strokes to win a 2A district title at Grand Palms Spa & Golf Resort in Pembroke Pines.

Belen Jesuit freshman Lorenzo Rodríguez was the individual district champion with a 2-under par (69).

Senior Brett White and sophomore Brett Moore were second and third. respectively, to pace the champion Mavericks. Junior Adrian Rodriguez of Belen Jesuit and Senior Terry Moore of Archbishop McCarthy shot 75, fourth best.

Columbus golf

The Columbus boys’ golf team won a 3A district title in rain-soaked conditions, shooting 301. That was nine strokes better than runner-up Doral Academy at Redland Golf & Country Club in Homestead.

The Explorers were led by Andres Atrio at 2-over par (74), Christian Figueredo (75), Max Fonseca (76), Hans Risvaer (76), and Seb Kawas (76).
