Krop football wins first district title in a decade. Ransom football, Riviera Prep golf & more

On Homecoming, the Dr. Krop football team won its first district championship in a decade by defeating Miami High 34-24.

The Lightning (5-1) are on a 4-game win streak.

Krop rushed for more than 400 yards en route to 510 total yards against Miami High.

The rushing attack was led by the dynamic duo of sophomore Roger Adam III (30 carries for 255 yards and a TD) and senior speedster Jediah Fanus (12 carries for 80 yards and a TD).

The offensive line was dominant in the trenches with sophomore Nathan Adras and junior Jamari Cooley guiding the effort.

Senior WR Bryce White made two catches for 100 yards, including an 80-yard TD catch and run. Jamaal Haggins added a passing TD and a rushing TD.

Defensively sophomore DE Caleb Turner-Allen scored on a 35-yard fumble return. He also has two tackles for loss and a sack.

The physical play of Jayden Haynes, Julius Weaver and Schnieder Pierre on the defensive line resulted in five tackles for loss and two sacks.

Juniors ONeal Webb and Kiesean Brown were standouts in the secondary with the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Brown intercepting a pass deep in the red zone early in the first half. Junior Shai Momplaisir also intercepted a pass, and senior Joubenz Blaise topped all tacklers with 12. He also had three tackles for loss and forced two fumbles.

The Lightning plays Miami Norland on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Traz Powell Stadium.

Cross-country

The Belen Jesuit boys’ cross-country team won the 305 Classic Invitational at Larry & Penny Thompson Park in Miami.

The Wolverines scored 26 points to place first of 14 teams.

The champs were led by junior Gabriel Bustamante. He was second overall, covering the 5K (3.1-mile) course in 17 minutes 31 seconds.

Ransom Everglades senior Felipe de Cardenas bested a field of 153 runners to win the race in 17:01.87.

Belen took the next three spots with Bustamante, senior Tomas Duque (third, 17:31.93) and junior Ricardo Yamin (fourth, 17:36.35. Wolverines freshman Diego Magarino was close, too, in sixth place at 17:44.64. Joseph Duran, a junior, rounded out Belen’s top five in 11th at 18:08.25.

Golf

Alexander Dalmau of Riviera Prep won the annual Belen Wolverine Invitational Golf Tournament at Melreese Country Club in Miami.

Dalmau, a senior, shot 1-over par 72 in windy conditions to take medalist honors. Archbishop McCarthy senior Brett White was second at 73, and Belen Jesuit freshman Lorenzo Rodriguez also shot 73.
