Columbus boys and TERRA girls won Miami Dade Youth Fair Bowling. Plus, football & more results

The Columbus boys and TERRA girls won the Miami Dade County Youth Fair High School Bowling Tournament at Bird Bowl in Westchester.

Ferguson was runner-up in the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

The Top 4 from match play advance into the Baker Round to determine which team will be champion. Each team bowled three games in match play.

On the boys’ side, Ferguson scored a 929 game in match play to help clinch the top seed. Columbus was second, followed by Belen Jesuit and Palmetto.

Ferguson beat Palmetto 3-0, and Columbus beat Belen Jesuit 3-1 in the Baker Round. In the finals, Columbus edged Ferguson 3-2.

In match play, Ferguson’s Isaiah Lacayo had a 256 High Game, and Gabriel Bellon a 231 High Game. Lacayo had a 627 Series, Bellon a 600 Series and Ethan Aguililla a 494 Series.

Chris Ferrer of Columbus had a 210 High Game and teammate George Kakouris a 197 High Game. Ferrer scored a 590 Series and Kakouris a 551. Alejandro Johnson posted a 499 Series.

The Explorers are undefeated this season.

The champs are Robbie Martinez, Chris Ferrer, Aidan Acevedo, Carlo Toca, George Kakouris, Luca Ordonez, Marlon Ruiz, and Alejandro Johnson. The coach is Adam Scholer.

Also of note, Evan Viener of Palmetto bowled the Highest Game 279 and Highest Series 739 in the boys’ division of match play.

In girls, TERRA, Ferguson, Palmetto and Coral Reef advanced to the Baker Round from match play.

TERRA, seeded first, beat Coral Reef 3-0, and Ferguson beat Palmetto 3-0. In the finals, TERRA defeated Ferguson 3-0.

TERRA teammates Ella Perez and Alexa Puett each bowled a 215 High Game (highest in match play). Perez also scored a 212. Gillian Pons had a 199 High Game.

The Wolves scored the top three series in the girls’ division in match play. Ella Perez 557 Series, Gillian Pons 554 Series, Alexa Puett 543 Series. Ferguson’s Samantha Abreu scored the fourth highest series at 454.

TERRA, undefeated in the regular season, bowled 816 in its first youth fair game, one of the highest girls’ games scored in Miami Dade County.

The champs are Jassidy Lopez, Jezel Lopez, Alyssa Sosa, Ella Perez, Alexa Puett, and Gillian Pons. The coach is Catherine Manfra.

Football

The Krop football team improved to 4-1 (2-0 in district play) with a 24-7 victory over Miami Beach.

The Lightning are on a three-game win streak.

Jamaal Haggins threw for 145 yards, including a 10-yard TD late in the 4th quarter to seal the win. He also had 2 rushing TD.

Senior WE Bryce White opened the second half with a 60-yard catch and run TD. Running back Roger Adam III ran for 181 yards on 26 carries, breaking the 100-yard mark for the third consecutive game.

Led by 6-foot-5, 300-pound junior Nicolas Garcia and senior standout Ceronel Cerisier, the offensive line was outstanding in the second half, resulting in three touchdowns.

The defensive line excelled, recording 2 safeties, 6 sacks and 8 QB hits. Senior Jayden Haynes had 7 tackles, 2 TFL and 2 sacks to go along with 2 catches at TE, plus a receiving TD.

Senior DT Julius Weaver and DE Schneider Pierre had 4 TFL and 4 QB hits and 3 TFLs and 2 sacks, respectively.

Junior Kiesean Brown and senior Sean Schieppati were very physical at OLB, and senior DB Vandell Gordon sealed the game with a INT off a tipped pass from junior LB Elijah Brown.

Krop’s Homecoming Game is against district foe Miami High at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ives Estates Park.
