Ferguson girls, Columbus boys undefeated in bowling. Krop football wins 2 games in 1 week

The Ferguson girls’ bowling team is back on track this season, improving to 8-0 with a victory over Southwest.

Because of Covid, the Falcons opted not to compete last season.

This season Ferguson and TERRA are the district favorites.

Samantha Abreu and Samantha Perez are helping lead the Falcons.

Bowling

Football

The Krop football team went 2-0 last week.

The Lightning beat Coral Gables 20-6 on Sept. 27 and Miami Springs 28-6 on Oct. 1, making them 3-1 and 1-0 in district play.

The defense, which caused seven turnovers in both games, was led by senior DE Jayden Haynes (2.5 sacks, 5 TFL, 12 tackles, a 20-yard fumble recovery for a TD and DT Julius Weaver (8.5 TFL).

Junior LB Elijah Brown set the tone early against Miami Springs with a sack, which forced a fumble that Jayden Haynes returned for a TD. Brown totaled 11 tackles and 2 forced fumbles for the week.

On offense, Roger Adam III had 170 yards rushing with a TD against Coral Gables and 120 yards and a TD on just 8 carries against Miami Springs.

Junior ATH Corey Williams scored on a slant against Miami Springs, and senior WR Bryce White scored on a 60-yard pass. White ended the week with 5 catches. Guyteau Salvador Jr. and Gustavo Elladen were standouts on the offensive line.

Roger Adam III had 2 TD against Coral Gables. and sophomore DE Caleb Turner-Allen scored on a 65-yard fumble return against Coral Gables.

Krop plays Miami Beach Senior High School in district play on Friday.

Cross country

Dillard sophomore Christiana Coleman was second in the Race of the Champions girls’ division during the 22nd annual Flrunners.com Invitational at Holloway Park in Lakeland.

Coleman covered the 3.1-mile course in 18:56.70, besting 216 other runners. Layla Haynes of IMG Academy in Bradenton was first in 18:50.85.

The event featured 1,335 runners (boys and girls), making it the largest cross-country meet in Florida and one of the most competitive in the Southeastern United States.

The Race of the Champions girls’ division featured 28 selected teams.

Lourdes was runner-up in the team competition with 142 points, 14 points behind champion Newsome.
