True North sports now part of FHSAA, plus bowling, football, golf and volleyball results
True North Classical Academy, a young charter school in Miami Dade County, opened the football season last week with a victory over St. Brendan.
The school, nicknamed Titans, was recently accepted as a full member, a year early, by the FHSAA. This has never been done in the history of the FHSAA, according to True North Athletic Director Shawn Ramirez.
The school offers 13 high school sports, including:
Football: Coach Greg Laffere (played for the University of Miami from 1998-2001) — FIU Assistant Coach for Coach Butch Davis — helped start Ave Maria football program.
Girls’ volleyball: Coach Freideman Sifontes — head coach at Belen — partner in MVA (Largest Club Org in Miami).

The school also features: cross-country, golf, beach volleyball, girls flag football, track & field, tennis, boys volleyball and competitive cheer.
True North, which is in Class 2A and 1A, hosted games of the Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic in its new 15,000-square foot gymnasium.
Academically, Ramirez noted True North’s FCAT state results were first in the tri-county area and second in the state of 3,600 schools.
