BCAA softball all stars, state baseball honors and Westminster Christian hires new coach
The Stripes defeated the Stars 5-0 in the 2021 BCAA Softball All-Star Classic.
The MVP for the Stripes is Grace Sobeck (South Plantation High School). The MVP for the Stars is Shannon Larkan (Monarch High School).

Westminster Christian lacrosse
Westminster Christian School announces that CJ Fleming will take charge of the boys’ lacrosse program, after previously serving as head coach at North Salem High School in New York.
Coach Fleming, who has experience as a high school, club and college lacrosse coach in the Northeast, is excited to move to Miami and further the development of lacrosse in South Florida.
He joins Westminster after a professional lacrosse career in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) with the Georgia Swarm and the New England Blackwolves. He also represented Team USA in the Indoor World Games.
Fleming said: “I am very excited for this new chapter and can’t wait to share my knowledge of the game and continue its growth in an already booming area.”
Last season the Warriors (12-6) reached the district finals by beating Ransom Everglades 15-5. In the district finals, Gulliver Prep edged Westminster Christian 9-7.
Baseball state finalists
The seven individual class finalists for the 2021 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Baseball and Baseball Coach of the Year were announced following balloting by a statewide panel of high school baseball coaches and prep media representatives.
Every finalist was the leading vote-getter in their classification, making each one the Player of the Year or Coach of the Year in their class. The two overall winners will be announced following a final round of balloting by coaches and media.
2021 Mr. Baseball Award finalists include:
Andrew Ildefonso, Sophomore, Pitcher, Archbishop McCarthy, Class 5A Player of the Year.
Helped his squad to a 22-9 record and a state runnerup finish with a 10-1 record and a 1.32 ERA. He had 78 strikeouts in 64 innings pitched. He also had a .365 batting average with 11 doubles and 16 RBI.
2021 Baseball Coach of the Year finalists include:
Todd Fitz-Gerald, Stoneman Douglas, Class 7A Coach of the Year.
Led his squad to a 28-2 record and the Class 7A state title. In 10 years at Stoneman Douglas he has posted a 196-53 record with two state titles (2016 and 2021). His career record of 446-119 includes a 10-year stint at Plantation-American Heritage where he won a state title (2008) and added two other Final Four appearances (2002 and 2009).
Brian Campbell, North Broward Prep, Class 4A Coach of the Year.
Campbell led his team to a 21-10 record and the Class 4A state title. In 14 years at NBP, Campbell has a 206-165 record with Final Four appearances in 2011 and 2014.
In the Class 7A Player of the Year voting, Roman Anthony of Stoneman Douglas was third. Joe Weber of Columbus was third in the 7A Coach of the Year voting.
In the Class 6A Player of the Year voting, Adrian Quinonez of Miami Springs was third.
Jason Hamilton of Cardinal Gibbons was second in the 5A Coach of the Year voting.
In the Class 4A Player of Year voting, Erick Garcia of Mater Lakes was third. In the Class 3A Player of the Year voting, Sal Stewart of Westminster Christian was second. Emil Castellanos of Westminster Christian was third in the Class 3A Coach of the Year voting.
Eric Fernandez of Riviera Prep was second in the Class 2A Player of the Year voting.
The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This is the 29th year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports.
The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
Cardinal Gibbons Baseball Camp
The Jason Hamilton and Chiefs Baseball Club East Inc’s 2021 Summer Baseball Camp offers three sessions for boys and girls, age 4-11, at Cardinal Gibbons High School, 2900 NE 47th St., Fort Lauderdale 33308.
The program, led by Cardinal Gibbons High School head baseball coach Jason Hamilton, includes instructions, drills, games, and fun. The staff consists of former players and area and regional experienced high school coaches, who have coached and/or played collegiately and/or professionally.
Session 3: June 28-July 2: 8:30 a.m.-Noon. Cost $180. Sibling discounts available. No lunch or concession stands.
