University School football
NSU University School announces that Michael Norman is the school’s new head football coach.
NSU University School Athletic Director Paul Herfurth said. “Norman is a dynamic leader with a clear vision and plan to jumpstart the program after facing the many challenges related to Covid-19. Along with his football experience, his work ethic and passion for player development, he is a great fit to build a long-term, sustainable program at NSU University School.
“Norman is a true educator in the classroom as well as on the field, and we look forward to the immediate impact he will have on our USchool community.”
A native of upstate New York, Norman moved to South Florida and started the Scheck Hillel football program in 2009 in North Miami Beach. He spent nine seasons as head coach. Most recently, he’s been the defensive coordinator and physical education department chair at St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, where he had a tremendous impact on the Scots program.
“I knew right away after hearing Mike layout his plan to maximize the gifts of our student athletes that he was the right leader for our football program,” Herfurth added. “His focus on purpose and process and the discipline, trust and commitment to that process is what I was looking for. I am very proud and excited to have Coach Norman lead our Sharks football program into the future.”

Miami Herald awards distribution
The Miami Herald Athletic Awards (Broward and Miami Dade) will be distributed Thursday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines, 601 City Center Way, Pembroke Pines 33025.
The Miami Herald Silver Knight Awards (Broward and Miami Dade) will also be distributed simultaneously. There will be signage identifying the different sections for the awards.
The goal was to identify a place midway between Broward and Miami-Dade counties to accommodate all the award recipients (first-team athletes, overall winners per sport, top coach per sport, athletes of the year, coaches of the year, two Courage Awards, two Lifetime Achievement Awards, and the special recognition of Coach George Smith).
The awards will be organized by sport, not by school, akin to the ceremonies.
There are more than 990 medals and awards, and there was a little more creativity, personalizing them this year.
